Nothing says love like chocolate chips.

Chocolate Chip Walnut & Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip

Chocolate Chip Walnut & Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip

You can find love in a bakery.

Last night.  6:54 PM, exactly 6 minutes before closing time, I found this cookie.  It was love at first bite.

Levain Bakery.  Upper West Side.  Where have you been all my life?  And how have I not been here before now?  Everything I have heard about you is true.  Your chocolate chip walnut cookie is fantastic.  I don’t know if I can call you my perfect cookie,  but damn if you aren’t close.

First off, the size of the cookie  (6 ounces!) alone is well worth the $3.75 it costs.  That 1 cookie is probably the size of 2 or 3 at other places put together.  These cookies are neither perfectly round or flat as a pancake.  Instead, what they are is a glob of goodness.  It’s as if someone just took the batter and dropped a large spoonful of dough onto the sheet – just like you should.  Second, it’s a meal in itself.  There are chocolate chips in every bite, and just enough of a blend of walnuts without it being overkill.  It’s crispy on the outside, but soft and doughy on the inside.  I’d almost call the consistency of it a mix between a cake, a scone, and a brownie – but that texture is totally cookie.

I swear to you when you are done with it, you will smile.  And then you will frown when you realize you just had the last bite.

Good thing I’ve got other flavors to try (Oatmeal Raisin, Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip) and there are other baked goods you sell, because I will *so* be back.
