Does Ruby et Violette Make a Good Cookie?

Mediocre. Cry, cry.
JulieAnn, Karen and I had such high hopes for our cookies at Ruby et Violette and we learned that with food, just like life, it is better to not have any expectations for fear of disappointment. OK, so maybe I’m exaggerating, but I spent $20 on average cookies, damn it.
The actual café is absolutely adorable. Cute garden chairs, grand fashion-like sketches and mirror windows make you feel like you’re in Paris (or at least that’s what I imagine Parisian cafés to look like). I should’ve known the second we opened the door that something was wrong. I couldn’t smell anything. It didn’t smell like a bakery, but I was too entranced by the furniture and cookie names to notice.
I ended up walking away with the following flavors:
Darn Good!, Red Velvet, Lemon White, Perfect, Creamy Seduction, Rose, Root Beer Float and Primal Seduction.
The Darn Good! was pretty darn good, is it a $2.50 cookie? Eh. More like $1.50. I also liked the Lemon White where you could really taste the lemon flavor. However, the rest fell flat to me. The Perfect was a lie, the creamy seduction wasn’t creamy, you couldn’t taste the floral notes in the Rose because of the heavy chocolate chunks, the Root Beer had a strange chewy texture, the Red Velvet should have stayed in a cake/cupcake form and Primal Seduction you are very forgettable, please don’t call me.
Don’t get me wrong, they were good cookies, I was just expecting more out of a $2.50 cookie.
In the meantime, I will still be heading to Levain Bakery to satisfy my cookie urges.
