NYC Delivers Venezuelan.
One of the best things about living in NYC is the fact that you can get anything delivered. On cold city nights, there is nothing better than to be super lazy, pull out your phone, and get all your favorite resturaunts right to your door. Bliss. I’ve got to say, delivery in the city rocks, and none better to order in than Venezuelan. You heard me. Venezuelan. I never had it till I moved out to NYC, and can’t say enough good things about it.
First, I find amazing guacamole (Venezuelan style no less) after months of searching from Shachi’s (197 Havemeyer St Brooklyn, NY – Recommend!). Secondly, the other night I was finally able to try the much talked about Caracas Arepas Bar. It made my day to find that not only do they have a location in Williamsburg, but that they delivered to my neighborhood. I tried standing in the line to get into the location at the Lower East Side once, and opted out because I was starving. Oh, bless you delivery!

I ordered the Guasacaca & Chips, a Venezuelan style guacamole. However, unlike the one at Sacchi’s (see above) this one had a dressing like texture, which reminded me of mayonaise. It wasn’t quite my thing, and I’d pass this appetizer at Caracas. The Empenadas on the other hand (deep-fried corn flour patties stuffed with fillings of meat, cheese, etc.) were AMAZING. I tried the De Queso (cheese) and the De Carne Mechada (beef) and both had just the right amount of filling. They were fried enough to be slightly crispy on the outside and doughy on the inside. However, for something that was fried, I found them incredibly light and flavorful. The other thing to try here are the Arepas. I’d call it the Venezuelan version of the Mexican torta. Arepas will make you rethink bread. Like the empanadas they are made of corn flour. They aren’t fried, but they are filled with a variety of fillings. I tried the De Pollo (grilled chicken breast with caramelized onions and cheddar cheese). The chicken was too thickly cut for me, but otherwise tasty.
A definite try.
